Weaver, Schlenger & Mazel is committed to helping families from around the world in obtaining lawful immigrant status within the United States. We offer legal counsel and representation related to the immigration consequences of marriage, separation and divorce*.

We have represented U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents in their petitions on behalf of parents, spouses, brothers and sisters, minor children and adult children. We have aided U.S. citizens in their petitions to bring their fiancees into the United States to marry here. We have represented both newlyweds who plan to make their lives together in this country, as well as those who have been married and living within the United States for several years. By filing well-documented waiver applications with the applications for permanent residence, we have assisted our clients in overcoming immigration obstacles such as criminal convictions, past misrepresentations to U.S. officials, use of false immigration documents, and being HIV positive. For non-citizen spouses who have suffered emotional or physical abuse, we have assisted in the self-petition process.

Our representation includes the preparation and filing of the visa petition and application for permanent residence, including all related forms, supporting documents and waivers, as required. We advise what will occur in advance of the interview and ensure that our clients are well prepared. We attend and represent our clients at the immigration interview. If a client's family member is processing for an immigrant or nonimmigrant visa through a consulate overseas, we prepare the documents to be filed and assist with follow up with the U.S. consular official.

We understand the importance of immigration and the reunification of families. We derive great satisfaction in applying our immigration expertise to make the path to permanent residence a smooth one. Our goal is to ensure that family members can live, work and succeed together in the United States.

* The terms and scope of our representation for each separate matter are set forth in our retainer agreement, which is signed prior to the start of any legal work.
